Traditional Beef Bolognese: Hearty Meat Sauce

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil, for garnish
- Parmesan cheese, grated, for serving
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onion, minced garlic, chopped carrot, and celery to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, sugar, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken.
- Remove the bay leaf from the sauce before serving.
- Cook your favorite pasta according to package instructions.
- Serve the Beef Bolognese sauce over the cooked pasta, garnished with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese.
